Al-Farouq Aminu is a Nigerian-American basketball player who currently plays as a small forward for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. He was born on September 21, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia, to a Nigerian father and an American mother. Aminu grew up in Norcross, Georgia, and attended high school at Norcross High School, where he played basketball and was named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year in 2008.
After graduating from high school, Aminu played college basketball at Wake Forest University for two years, from 2008 to 2010. During his sophomore year at Wake Forest, Aminu averaged 15.8 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game, and was named to the All-ACC First Team.
Aminu was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft. He played for the Clippers for two seasons, from 2010 to 2012, and then played for the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans from 2012 to 2014.
