Alan Henderson was born on December 2, 1972, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He played college basketball at Indiana University from 1991-1995 and was a key player on the Hoosiers team that reached the Final Four in 1992 and 1993. He was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 16th overall pick in the 1995 NBA draft.
Henderson played his first nine seasons with the Hawks and was known for his rebounding, defense, and ability to score inside. He averaged a career-high 14.3 points per game in the 1997-98 season and had his best rebounding season in 2000-01, averaging 9.0 rebounds per game.
